Arrest over crossbow death threats

Police arrested a man after they receiving reports that someone was driving around a North Yorkshire town armed with a crossbow and making death threats.

Officers were alerted to the incident in Northallerton late on Saturday night.

After an extensive search police eventually arrested a man and recovered a crossbow and several bolts from a vehicle.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “There was a report (on Saturday) just after 11pm of a male in the Northallerton area in possession of a crossbow in his car.

“The report suggested that he had been drinking (and) was very angry, stating that he was intending to kill somebody with the crossbow. 

“Following a police operation involving local units and supported by North Yorkshire Police firearms teams, an extensive search was conducted throughout the area, resulting in a vehicle being checked in the Northallerton area.

“A male was subsequently arrested from the vehicle and a crossbow and four bolts have been recovered.”

The man remained in custody while further investigations were carried out but was later released on police bail.
