Celebration time for pupils who make grade in tests
THE LEAGUE tables have showcased the success of schools across Yorkshire in both maths and English tests sat by 11-year-olds.
There were 15 primaries across the region where every pupil made the grade in the two core subjects.
Each of these schools saw 100 per cent of their year six students reach or exceed the level expected of their age group.
In a table compiled using data published by the Department for Education yesterday Crowlees CE Junior and Infants, in Mirfield, was the highest ranked in Yorkshire and the eight highest nationally as it had the largest number of pupils in Yorkshire making the grade.
All 60 of its year six pupils celebrated success in their key stage two standard assessment tests.
Head teacher Kathy Woods praised the hard work of teachers, pupils and governors for the school’s performance.
She added: “Test results are only a small part of what we do.
“We do work hard to ensure that the pupils have a broad and balanced curriculum – as do all schools.”
She also highlighted the importance of having the support of parents to the success of a school.
Greetland Academy, near Halifax, which was one of the first primaries in Yorkshire to go for academy status, was the second highest ranked in the region based on the number of pupils achieving level four scores.
It was followed by St Bernadette’s Catholic Academy in Scunthorpe and Elloughton Primary in Brough which also saw 100 per cent of pupils making the grade. Elloughton Primary’s head teacher Christine Coates told of her pride at the efforts of pupils and staff in achieving improved results. “Last year we did remarkably well with 100 per cent of pupils getting level four in English and 98 per cent in maths – and for us two per cent is just one child. We have done well in previous years as well. The approaches we are taking are clearly working.”
Tables were also published yesterday showing which schools achieved the highest average point score in this year’s Sats.
Using this measure Ben Rhydding Primary, near Ilkley, was the highest ranked in Yorkshire followed by Barugh Green in Barnsley and then Crowlees Juniors and Infants.
