Memorial lecture launched
A PROGRESSIVE educational thinker from Yorkshire who co-wrote a best-selling book that played a key role in the debate over comprehensive and selective schooling is to be commemorated by a prestigious new annual lecture.
It is hoped that the event will restore the late Brian Jackson and his 1962 book Education and the Working Class to prominence.
Huddersfield University lecturer Dr Alex Smith is launching the event to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the book. The inaugural lecture will take place on Wednesday, March 14, in the George Buckley Lecture Theatre at Huddersfield University delivered by York University’s head of sociology Professor Mike Savage.
