Asda customers left without Christmas dinners
ASDA has apologised to customers in Leeds who were left without their Christmas dinners after a breakdown of the store’s online delivery service.
Around 200 customers’ orders were reportedly delayed while another 50 did not get them at all.
The supermarket would not confirm exactly how many people had been affected.
A spokeswoman for the supermarket said an “isolated error” at its distribution centre in Morley had caused problems for “a small number” of customers in the area and there had been no other delivery issues across the UK.
“We have refunded those customers affected for the full cost of their shopping and given them £100 cash by way of apology,” she said.
Those affected included Julia Mayman, from Headingley, who said her family’s Christmas was “ruined” after they were left with no turkey or trimmings for their dinner.
She had ordered £100 of groceries two weeks in advance but they failed to arrive.
Miss Mayman, 36, said she was notified after shops had closed the night before Christmas Eve – and the retailer still took payment from her bank account, leaving her and her partner with no cash left to buy replacements.
She said at the time: “I am furious.
“Luckily our friends pulled together for us.
“But at one stage we thought we were having beans on toast for Christmas dinner!
“You look forward to it all year round, but they ruined our Christmas meal.”
