A FAMILY of 12 who were living in a three-bedroom house have got their wish and been handed the keys to an eight-bedroom former children’s home.
Donna Harrison, 35, and Fabian Bland, 43, had been living in their terrace house with 10 children aged between two and 15.
The unemployed couple, who care for Donna’s sister’s three children following their guardian’s death, as well as seven of their own, turned down several four-bedroom houses offered to them by social landlord Incommunities because they had set their heart on the old children’s home.
Now the family from Bradford, whose £133-per-week rent is paid from benefits, are delighted to be enjoying plenty of space in their new eight-bedroom abode.
Donna said: “Fabian lost his job as a delivery driver about six months ago so getting the house was good news for us in what has been a hard time.
“I know what some people will say about us living off the State with so many children, and it makes me angry.
“But this is the first time in 20 years that Fabian has claimed benefits.
“And I’m over the moon. Getting this house is the best thing that’s ever happened to us. All the kids absolutely love it and I love it.”
