Pervert is jailed for sexual abuse of four-year-old

A SCARBOROUGH paedophile has been jailed for six-and-a-half years after admitting sexual activity with a four-year-old.

Duncan James Byrne, 34, of North Marine Road, pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual activity with a child on October 13 last year.

The offences took place between March 1 and April 14, 2011, at a house in the North Yorkshire seaside resort.

Byrne was sentenced at York Crown Court yesterday and also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order and banned from working with children for life.

DC Laura Carroll, from North Yorkshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit, said: “I would like to highlight the bravery which the victim and their family have displayed since their lives were turned upside down by Byrne.

“Byrne has admitted that he is a child sex offender and that, together with the consequences he now faces, will follow him round for the rest of his life.

“To betray the trust of a child in the way he did is abhorrent and beneath contempt.

“I hope yesterday’s outcome gives other victims of sexual abuse the confidence to come forward and report their ordeal to police.”
