Police authority ‘failing taxpayer’

AN MP says failures to control a Deputy Chief Constable’s spending on personal development training underlines the need for fresh leadership at North Yorkshire Police.

A police watchdog yesterday criticised the way former DCC Adam Briggs was able to obtain £11,750 from force funds for executive coaching while receiving more than £30,000 in his salary for personal development costs and private medical insurance.

Julian Smith, Tory MP for Skipton and Ripon, said: “This latest report from the Independent Police Complaints Commission reveals the complete failure of North Yorkshire Police Authority’s role of making sure that taxpayers’ money is spent correctly.”
