Postman hurt trying to stop theft of van
A POSTMAN who tried to stop his van being stolen was left injured yesterday after he clung to the outside of the vehicle and was dragged down the street.
He escaped without serious injuries as the offender continued to drive away.
Police said the Royal Mail worker was delivering parcels in Downing Road, Meadowhead, Sheffield, at around 11am when he saw his white Citroen Berlingo being driven away.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The postman attempted to stop the van and as a result he was dragged along for a short distance and received minor injuries.
“The suspect is described as a white man, aged about 20. He was unshaven and was wearing a black hooded top and jeans.
“The van was recovered a short time later and a number of parcels were reported to have been stolen.”
Investigations were continuing last night and anyone with any information was urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on non-emergency number 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
