Forecasters have warned of icy conditions as many Britons head back to work after a weekend of snow.

Forecasters say the next few days will be mostly dry, but temperatures will struggle to rise above zero.

Temperatures hovered around freezing in most areas early today, although Church Fenton in Yorkshire recorded minus 8.6C with visibility less than 100 metres.

The A1(M) in North Yorkshire is closed with queueing traffic northbound from J47, A168 (Allerton Park) to J49, A168 (Dishforth), because of ice. A diversion is in operation but there is congestion to J46, B6164 (Wetherby). More details »

• M62 West Yorkshire - Two lanes closed, queueing traffic and severe delays on M62 eastbound from J25, A644 (Brighouse) to J26, M606 (Chain Bar), because of roadworks. Travel time is 140 minutes. Congestion to J23, A640 (Huddersfield).

Buses across many marts of the county have been restricted to an roads only.
