Tearful Denise Welch reveals marriage split on Loose Women

Denise Welch fought back the tears as she revealed on live TV that she has separated from husband Tim Healy.

The actress, who recently won Celebrity Big Brother, confessed yesterday that they had split “some time ago”.

She used an appearance on chat show Loose Women, which she co-hosts, to reveal the end of their marriage.

The couple, who have two children, have been married for more than 23 years.

Recent weeks have seen Welch, 53, bare her soul – and much more besides – to the nation on television.

The feisty actress from the north-east first became a star playing landlady Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street, but it is her outspoken appearances on Loose Women that made her a household name.

She has spoken previously of her battles with drink, drugs and depression and described in detail her tempestuous relationship with Healy and their regular alcohol-fuelled rows.

Welch revealed in her 2010 autobiography, Pulling Myself Together, that she had snorted cocaine in between filming scenes for Coronation Street and suffered from depression after the birth of her eldest son in 1989.

Her acting career began with early appearances in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Spender which were followed by a bigger role in Soldier Soldier.

She was criticised for some of her antics in Celebrity Big Brother which included stripping off while drunk and jumping in a hot tub topless.
