FOR the third year running, a Best Bar None scheme to promote high standards in licensed premises is set to run in Sheffield.
The scheme will be launched on Wednesday, June 1, at Sheffield Town Hall and, for the first time, it will cover not just the city centre but also venues in Ecclesall Road and Sharrowvale Road.
Best Bar None is a recognised award scheme, supported by the Home Office, which aims to promote responsible management and provide an incentive for licensees to improve their standards of operation to the level of a commonly agreed national benchmark.
There are special awards for the best premises in each category and last year’s overall winner was Bar Phoenix, the Sheffield Hallam University bar.
The director of substance misuse strategy for Sheffield, Jo Daykin-Goodall, said: “It is really encouraging to see licensed premises in Sheffield taking part in the scheme and helping to make Sheffield a safe place to enjoy an evening out.
“We have been pleased at the good response in the past two years and hope to have a record number applying this year and gaining accreditation.”
