Barnsley shopping centre fully let with addition of new retailers

The Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley has bucked the national trend for vacancy rates after it announced the centre is now fully let after a string of recent lettings to national retailers.

The centre now has full occupancy since signing up popular high street stores including, The Works, Thomas Cook and Game since the beginning of the year.

The latest retailer to exchange, The Works, will be opening a new 2,212-sq ft store on the lower level of the centre later this month.

In addition, a new local barber shop, The Barber’s Chair, has just opened on an external kiosk unit in New Street to add to the new tenant line up.

These follow even more new store openings in the shopping centre in 2016, including new retailers Savers, Yours and Card Factory.

John Tarrant, centre manager, said: “We are delighted to announce the Alhambra is now 100% let and this is a fantastic result for our shopping centre, retailers and loyal customers alike where we pride ourselves on superb customer service.

“We have an excellent mix of stores including Primark, Next, TK Maxx, Wilko and Iceland as well as many other high street fashion retailers and shops, including independent operators and coffee shops, giving the people of Barnsley and surrounding districts an all-round indoor shopping experience.”

The owners, clients of BMO Real Estate Partners, are now investing in a total revamp of the multi-story car park to compliment a vibrant retail offer in a safe and clean environment.

The renovation comprises a 16-week programme due to complete in June, and will include a full redecoration on all levels. This follows the recent introduction of a new pay on foot system for the car park last year, incorporating chip and pin services and installation of new energy efficient LED lighting. Completion of the car park renovation will also see the return of full car parking ancillary facilities, including a new valet service.

Alister Thompson, Director of Asset Management for BMO Real Estate Partners, said: “The Alhambra Centre continues to go from strength to strength with numerous new retailers signing up in recent months.”
