LISTENERS to BBC Radio 4 will be able to hear a senior Yorkshire cleric over the next few days after the Bishop of Sheffield was asked to record programmes for a long-running religious segment.

Dr Steven Croft broadcast this morning as part of the station’s Prayer for the Day programme and will also present the slot each day until Friday offering Christmas thoughts and reflections.

The Bishop said the short, daily programme offers listeners a thought to start the day and ends with a prayer.

He added: “I was pleased to be asked to contribute to the seasonal output of BBC Religion and will be praying through some of the great themes of this time of the year.”

Dr Croft has been Bishop of Sheffield since 2009 and is a published author, with recent works including a novel for children and adults called The Advent Calendar and Jesus’ People: What the Church Should Do Next, which examines the Church’s role in today’s society and culture.

Prayer for the Day can be heard on BBC Radio 4 at 5.43am each day and can be listened to later on the BBC iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
