Body of elderly man found in Sheffield believed to be missing pensioner

The body of an elderly man has been found by police in Sheffield this afternoon.

South Yorkshire Police said officers searching the Woodhouse Mill area made the discovery at around 1pm.

A spokesman said: "While formal identification has not yet taken place, it is believed to be missing man Barry Jones.

"Mr Jones’ family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers."

He said there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the 77-year-old's death at this time.

Mr Jones was reported missing just before 4pm on February 28 after he left his home in Aston, Rotherham, at around 10.20am that morning.

Police had been able to trace his movements until around lunchtime when he got off a bus between Woodhouse Mill and Swallownest.
