Brawn admits Virgin partnership is over, with Manor set to benefit
THE partnership between Yorkshire's Manor GP and Sir Richard Branson moved a step closer to an official confirmation today when Ross Brawn announced his Formula 1 team would not carry the name of Virgin as their sponsors next year.
The deal involving the Dinnington-based team, who will take their place on the F1 grid next season, and Virgin has been anticipated for some time after Branson said during the summer that Brawn GP's early-season success had priced him out of an extended contract.
Virgin's sponsorship of the Brawn team helped them ease out of the problems created by Honda's demise at the turn of the year.
But Brawn said: "We had a great year with Virgin but they have different ambitions next year so it's unlikely you will see their name on the car next year.
"They had the faith or good luck to be with us from the start and won a championship with us but it doesn't look like they will continue."
