The teenage pregnancy rate in England and Wales at its lowest since 1969, according to figures published earlier this
year by the Office for National Statistics.

In 2007, the teenage pregnancy rate in Wakefield was 56 per 1,000 girls aged under18, higher than the averages for both Yorkshire and the whole country.

Since then, work has
been going on to
tackle the issue and the number of under 16s
who become pregnant has gone from the highest in West
Yorkshire to among
the lowest.

Barnardo’s Young Families has helped
more than 1,600 young parents and their
families in the Wakefield area over the past decade.
