Cat just Magic for Ryan

Magic Cat ran out a convincing winner of the Sapper Conditions Stakes for the in-form trainer-jockey team of Karl Burke and Andrew Elliott at Ripon.

Caranbola and Thunderous Mood were soon disputing the lead in the five-furlong dash, and approaching the final furlong the latter was clearly getting the better of that argument.

But then Elliott asked his mount to go about his business and the youngster quickened up in fine style to sweep into the lead about 100 yards from home and go one-and-a -half lengths clear.

The 7-2 winner is owned and was bred by Ray Bailey, who said: "He is in the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury, but I would like to go for the Harry Rosebery at Ayr.

"I think it would suit him better over five furlongs."

Elliott added: "He ran well first time in a Pontefract maiden, he just came up against a good one – he strengthened up from that but he surprised me the way he quickened up today."

Newmarket trainer Michael Jarvis has a good record at the course and he was in the money again when Rose Street justified 11-8 favouritism under Philip Robinson in the City Of Ripon Handicap.

The winner carries the colours of Ray Green and his wife Anita, and the former said: "We were going to run her at York last Tuesday, but the weather put paid to that.

"She is the only proper Flat horse we have, but she will go jumping one day.

KEITH Reveley's mare Let It Be is in the form of her life and, with up-and-coming apprentice Campbel Gillies (who can't stop riding winners at the moment) set to reduce her burden by seven pounds, the partnership looks an irresistible combination in this afternoon's Swale Handicap at Catterick.

Now a seven-year-old, Let It Be has always paid her way in the past but connections must be delighted by recent wins at Redcar, Carlisle and Beverley and a four-timer beckons today.

Shortly after, Jonny Lesters Hair might be worth an interest in the Weatherbys Finance Handicap.

Tim Easterby's gelding looked set for a good season when winning at Thirsk in May but hasn't had a lot of luck since, including when collared close home in the Beverley mud last Sunday. It must be significant that he's turned out again quickly here.
