Gin has never been bigger in Harrogate, it seems, and one newcomer at least, Spirit of Harrogate, is determined to prove its local credentials.
Located at Montpellier Parade, among the flavoured gins available at this new shop on Montpellier Parade which opened recently is Slingsby Artisan Gin, a brand new gin to market made with the beautiful and restorative nature of Harrogate in mind.
A total of 24 of Slingsby’s botanicals are grown in Harrogate’s Rudding Park Hotel Kitchen garden.
Other key ingredients include Yorkshire rhubarb, Green and Jasmine Tea from Taylors of Harrogate and medicinal plants from Rudding Park such as Sweet Cicely, Primrose and Thyme; all lovingly and expertly combined with spring water from Harrogate’s world famous aquifer and pure single grain spirit.
But that’s not all. Customers are invited to step inside Spirit of Harrogate for the ‘Slingsby Experience’, where they can relax, socialise, sample the shop’s range of flavoured gins and over 30 tonics and buy the Slingsby Gin.
Visitors will also be welcome to make their way upstairs to the Spirit of Harrogate room, where they will be taken on a journey through the history of gin and how Slingsby is created.
Spirit of Harrogate will also offer Slingsby Gin Experiences for up to 20 private, pre-booked guests, to include canapes and specially developed Slingsby Signature cocktails, created by Spirit of Harrogate’s hand-picked team.
Marcus Black, co-founder and managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be opening the doors to Spirit of Harrogate’s very own retail experience.
“Slingsby Gin was developed by looking at things differently and its home. Spirit of Harrogate, certainly reflects this.”
Formerly a a chartered accountant with Deloitte before moving in to mergers and acquisitions and, finally, the drinks industry, Marcus said choice and quality were the key words.
He said: “Habits have changed. People take more care about how they spend there money. Younger people aren’t drinking in the vast quantities they were.
“People want what they drink to say something about them, and they want choice.”
Two years in the making, Slingsby Gin pays tribute to William Slingby, who discovered the unique proeprties of natural spring water in Harrogate’s Tewit Well in 1571.
This 42% ABV twist on london Dry Gin is packaged in a medicinal blue bottle.
The Spirit of Harrogate is open Tuesday-Sunday.
