CAMPAIGNERS battling to retain children’s heart surgery services in Yorkshire are holding the latest of a series of public meetings to rally support.
People from the Doncaster area are being invited to show support for the Save Our Surgery campaign next week.
The meeting is the latest around the region as part of efforts to retain services at Leeds Children’s Hospital which have seen 100,000 people sign a petition of support.
Under a national review, fewer hospitals will carry out heart surgery on children but Leeds is included in only one of four potential configurations of care. Sick youngsters from the region otherwise face travelling to Newcastle, Liverpool or Leicester for treatment.
The meeting will be held at the Earl of Doncaster Hotel, Bennetthorpe, Doncaster, at 11am on Saturday April 30. Speakers will include surgeons and parents of patients. For further information ring the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund charity on 0113 392 5907.
