Christine Ohuruogu, Victoria Pendleton, Chris Hoy and Paul Goodison add more golds
CHRISTINE OHURUOGU has added the Olympic title to her world title when she won the women's 400m race in Beijing's Bird's Nest.
Ohuruogu was sixth at the bend going into the final straight but showed her tactical strength whenn stormed through the field to clinch the title as leader Sanya Richards faded.
It is the 16th gold for Britain and the fourth of a remarkable day.
Germaine Mason also won Britain's first high jump medal of the century when he won silver. But Wakefield's Martyn Bernard failed to medal despite a valiant effort.
Wakefield Harrier Emily Freeman, 27, is through to the semi-finals of the women's 200m after successfully negotiating the first and second round heats.
Victoria Pendleton and Chris Hoy claimed Britain's 14th and 15th Olympic gold medals within minutes of each other in cycling's velodrome.
Pendleton beat Australian Anna Meares to capture the seventh gold for the British cycling team.
"It was going like a dream and I now feel part of the team," said Pendleton.
Then just moments later, Hoy completed a hat-trick of Olympic titles and the fourth of his career when he beat fellow Britain Jason Kenny into the silver medal position.
Hoy has also won the team sprint and the keirin in Beijing.
The cycling team's tally is now eight of Britain's 15 Olympic gold medals.
The 2008 Olympics are now Britain's most successful, after eclipsing the 14 golds they won in 1920.
Bradley Wiggins missed out on a hat-trick of Beijing golds when he and Mark Cavendish failed to medal in the men's madison.
Cavendish, who won four stages of the Tour de France earlier this year, is the only member of the British cycling team not to win a medal in Beijing.

The 30-year-old clinched victory after guaranteeing himself a medal in the preliminary heats.
He only needed to avoid coming last in the 10-boat race and opted to take a safe approach in the waters of the Yellow Sea.
Goodison finished ninth, but won overall first place eight points ahead of silver medal winner Vasilij Zbogar of Slovenia.
The British squad has already won its largest tally of gold medals since the Antwerp Games of 1920, with 13 so far.
There was another Yorkshire-born winner in the Laser Radial as Doncaster native Anna Tunnicliffe gave the United States its first sailing gold with a second place finish behind Lithuania's Gintare Volungeviciute in the medal race.
The 25-year-old, who moved to America at the age of 12, was ninth midway through the race but came back to finish 11 seconds behind Volungeviciute, who took the silver medal.
Dewsbury's Alistair Bronwlee finished as the highest-placed Brit in the triathlon, when he came home 12th.
Bronwlee, 20, actually led the race which encompasses cycling, swimming and running before fading over the final kilometres.
Great Britain's men's hockey team drew 3-3 with Australia to end their chances of a medal.
Doncaster's Barry Middleton scored the opening goal in a game they needed to win by eight goals.
