A Yorkshire city at the heart of the rhubarb triangle is gearing up for its annual celebration of the plant.

Last year 120,000 attended the Food, Drink and Rhubarb Festival in Wakefield, and this year’s event, which begins on Friday, includes demonstrations from celebrity chefs including Brian Turner and Great British Bake Off finalist Luis Troyano.

Local chefs will also take centre stage with a host of cookery demonstrations, and local produce will be on sale from more than 40 stalls in the city centre over three day. The city’s association with rhubarb goes back 150 years, as part of the Wakefield-Morley-Rothwell growing triangle.
