The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) is central to the Close Brothers’ scheme.
Since opening in October 2013, the centre has taken on 410 first and second-year apprentices.
It is the joint headquarters of the new National College for Advanced Manufacturing and has links with both Sheffield universities.
This enables apprentices to progress to higher-level qualifications up to doctorate and MBA level.
The centre’s approach puts an emphasis on working with industry to address the manufacturing skills gap.
