Bob Shallcroft
BOB Shallcroft, who has died at the age 75, was the chairman and driving force behind Horsforth Civic Society.
The keen fly-fisher worked constantly behind the scenes in Horsforth to make sure that the Leeds suburb retained its traditional charm.
One of his main achievements was his instrumental role in having the Millennium Stone placed on The Green in the centre of the town.
Mr Shallcroft suffered from a form of blood cancer which was diagnosed as Myelodysplasia last year.
Mr Shallcroft, who is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Mary, and the couple's two sons, was a co-opted member of the planning committee for Horsforth Town Council because of his extensive knowledge of the town and his passion for conservation.
He was also a lecturer at Park Lane College, specialising in third world affairs until his retirement.
He sat as a magistrate in Leeds for 25 years, in the course of which he became the chairman of the bench for family services.
