Will Venters
ITV Yorkshire Head of News Will Venters has died after a short illness. He was 56.
He had been at ITV Yorkshire for 16 years – the last seven as Head of News. In that time he was proud to see the team’s dedication and hard work rewarded with honours from the Royal Television Society for Best News Coverage and being named News Programme of the Year at the ITV News Awards 2011.
He began his journalism career at his hometown paper the Huddersfield Examiner but then went on to work at Raymonds News Agency, BBC Radio Leicester, Pennine Radio and eventually ITV.
In 1996, Mr Venters joined ITV Yorkshire as News Editor of Calendar. He subsequently worked on a series of studio and location programmes including documentaries, filming as far a field as China and Pakistan. He was appointed Head of News of Calendar in 2005.
He was a hugely respected colleague but more than that a friend to many more. His warmth, humour, dedication and friendship was valued by the hundreds of colleagues who worked with him.
Away from work, he was a devoted and passionate follower of Huddersfield Town. He was a founder member of the Survival Trust and chaired a packed public meeting at the town hall when the club was threatened with liquidation.
He leaves a wife, Margaret, five children and a granddaughter.
