COUNCIL workers in Sheffield have demonstrated their generosity by collecting 500 presents for disadvantaged children in South Yorkshire.
The collection was part of a wider appeal, Cash for Kids, to make sure that every child in the area receives at least one present on Christmas Day.
Council worker Ruth Bell, who co-ordinated the collection, said: “This is the third year I’ve got involved. The first year we managed to get 200 gifts, last year 400 and this year to smash 500 is just amazing.
“I’ve been really moved by just how much support colleagues have given me and more importantly, Cash for Kids.”
Council leader Julie Dore praised the way the authority’s staff had responded to the toy appeal. She said: “It is touching to see so many people pull together to support this wonderful cause.
“I know that the council isn’t alone.
“People from across South Yorkshire have been getting these gifts ready for our region’s children and young people.
“Christmas is always a time that makes you grateful for what you’ve got, and a moment to reach out to others.”
