Pony Club show meet band of volunteers

THE Pony Club's annual conference is being held at York racecourse today.

Guest speakers include Peter Webbon, chief executive of the Animal Health Trust, Clive Hetherington, director of the Festival of the Horse, and eventing commentator Henry Symington. The compere for the day is Mike Tucker.

" The annual conference is a really important day in our calendar as we get to meet around 500 of our volunteers and hear their thoughts on what we can do to help them and therefore move the Pony Club forwards," said chief executive Judy Edwards.

As well as discussions on training, finance and fundraising, there will also be more time this year for questions and answers for volunteers.

THE Cleveland Bay Horse Society celebrated their move to new premises at the Regional Agricultural Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground with an open day for members.

They were given a guided tour by David Anderson, chairman of CBHS Council, and a preview of the new website which will go live shortly. A total of 500 was also raised for the charity's funds.

BLAIR CASTLE International Horse Trials beat some big names to win the British Equestrian Trade Association's Equestrian Event of the Year award. The Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, the Festival of Eventing at Gatcombe, and Burghley Horse Trials were also short listed.

Blair Castle, Scotland's only three-star event, combines top class eventing with a Country Fair and is now in its 21st year.

It has been invited to host the FEI European Young Riders' Championships next year.
