Stars turn out for the Chatsworth challenge
British Olympic bronze medallists Kristina Cook and Miners Frolic head the line-up of 50 entries for the HSBC FEI World Cup qualifier at Chatsworth International Horse Trials, which run on May 16 and 17.
She will face some tough opposition from top riders including national champion Ruth Edge, who brings the in-form PC Wilson, second at the recent Burnham Market International three-star. New Zealander Mark Todd, back from retirement and always a strong contender, has entered NZB Land Vision, winner of this year's two-star at Somerley Park and fellow countryman Andrew Nicholson has entered Nereo, the full brother to his top ride Armada.
British-based Australian Paul Tapner and the fiesty Inonothing can also be relied on to be competitive.
British riders William Fox-Pitt, Polly Stockton, Julie Tew and Laura Collett, all World Cup finalists last year, have strong entries for the qualifier as does Yorkshire's Oliver Townend, winner of the class last year with Flint Curtis. This year, he has high hopes of Golden Hue, who is no stranger to the Chatsworth course, Oliver and the 10-year-old having won the three-star section here last year.
Demand for the three-star international at Chatsworth is always high but entries are still being received – from the experienced to those having their first run at this level. The course is set in the picturesque parkland surrounding Chatsworth, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and is known for its sculpture fences, which they have specially commissioned over the last few years. Novice horses are also catered for and well over 300 entries have been received for this section.
Visitors to the horse trials can buy a 'two-for-one' ticket which includes entrance to the house and gardens.

Twelve leading riders from different disciplines will take on the challenge of competing in the sport of TREC in front of the crowds at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on May 16.
The 12 taking part in the SEIB BHS TREC Pro-Am Challenge include representatives from the disciplines of dressage, show-jumping and eventing.
For dressage, it is Britain's European hopeful Laura Bechtolsheimer and Spencer Wilton, national dressage champion in 2007.
Tim Stockdale and Robert Whitaker will be flying the flag for show-jumpers, while Lucinda Green's daughter Lissa and ex-Household Cavalry riding master Dickie Waygood make up the eventing contingent.
The celebrity horse trainer Kelly Marks and para dressage rider Alex McNamara will be showing their abilities.
Accomplished riders Staff Corporal Rupert Hackman from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and Captain Harry Wallace from the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery add to the line-up, and showing everybody how it should be done are GB BHS TREC Team members Anna Weston and Anthea Kendrick.
The competition will take place in the new BHS Frogmore Arena where competitors will negotiate a stream of obstacles against the clock.
