Give the young apprentices a hand
VOLUNTEERS are wanted to give work experience to youngsters in the hill farm apprentice scheme run by the Yorkshire Dales Farmer Network in association with Askham Bryan and Craven College.
More farmers are wanted in Wharfedale, Wensleydale and the Settle area.
The students have already had some training in basic animal care and handling, ATV use, sheep dipping and shearing, dog handling, walling, pesticide application, tractor driving, telehandling and chainsaw use. Farmers are expected to pay for them but they get money back for mentoring, so effectively they get cut-price labour. Contact Kath Jackson on 07527 889311 or 01768 868615.
