Countryside Live: Thousands flock through the gates for farming showcase

AGRICULTURAL action is underway at Countryside Live in Harrogate, with thousands of visitors set to be welcomed to the Great Yorkshire Showground over the course of the weekend.

The classes for cattle, sheep and horses are at the heart of the event with the livestock championships coming to a conclusion tomorrow.

Also on the line-up are farriery competitions, sheep racing organised by the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers, birds of prey demonstrations, dog agility displays, ferret racing and One Man and His Pig competitions.

Younger guests can get hands-on in the Create and Explore area.

Some 1,759 tickets were sold in the run up to the event - up 22 per cent on last year’s figures - while there are record entries in the equine classes.

Highlights today include the judging of the honey and pigeon classes, and the finale of the coloured horse and pony championship
