AN armed siege in Hull has ended, after a man who climbed on to the roof of a suburban property handed himself in to police.

The man, believed to have had a knife, climbed on to the low, first-storey roof of a rear extension at around 5.30am.

Armed negotiators spent the morning trying to talk him down from the roof in Hilary Grove on the Boothferry estate. At one point the man was reported to have thrown an iron off the roof.

One resident described the scene as “like a siege” as police vehicles arrived.

Police confirmed just before noon that he had been arrested.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: “A man who took to the roof of a property in Hilary Grove, Hull, has come down and been detained by officers. He is being taken to hospital for medical treatment.”
