TWO people were arrested in Knaresborough last night after a collision involving a police van.

A white BMW car collided with the police vehicle as officers investigated reports of suspicious behaviour in the High Street.

According to North Yorkshire Police, witnesses had reported “suspicious activity” near to the HSBC cash machine and when officers arrived the white BMW attempted to leave the scene.

The car was later found abandoned.

Police searched the area and arrested two people on Harrogate Road.

A 24-year-old Ripon man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, dangerous driving and failing to stop. A 21-year-old woman from Ripon was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.
