Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace after money was stolen from Starbucks in York.

The theft is believed to have taken place as the result of a 'ringing the changes' scam where people are asked to swap notes for a different denomination.

It happened at the coffee shop in Coney Street at around 6.10pm on Saturday, February 11.

But police only released details of the incident today as they sought the public's help.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A member of staff at the till was asked by an unknown man to change £200 in £10 note denominations to £200 in £20 note denominations.

"The man was seen to place some notes in his back pocket on two occasions during this and the store has now reported a loss."

Anyone with any information about the identity of the man is asked to call police on 101, press 2 and ask to speak to PC592 Lewis.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
