Man, 39, charged with further Rotherham child sexual exploitation offences

A 39-year-old man charged with 15 offences relating to child exploitation in Rotherham has been charged with further offences.

Basharat Hussain, who is currently on remand at HMP Doncaster, has been charged with a further two counts of indecent assault, three counts of threats to kill and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm today.

The fresh charges were made as part of Operation Clover, the South Yorkshire Police investigation working with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Hussain will appear before Rotherham Magistrates’ Court on Monday. The latest charges are alleged to have taken place in Rotherham between March 2000 and March 2003.

He is one of eight defendants charged with over 100 offences relating to child sexual exploitation in Rotherham. They will next appear before Sheffield Crown Court on October 13.

South Yorkshire Police is urging anyone with concerns about child sexual exploitation to call 101 or the national helpline Say Something on 116000.
