Man arrested after police make street Valium warning

Police investigating an increase in overdoses linked to street Valium laced with Rohypnol have arrested a man.

North Yorkshire Police has arrested a 33-year-old from the town on suspicion of supplying the class C drug and released him on bail pending forensic examinations.

Forty tablets of what is believed to be street Valium tablets containing Rohypnol were recovered.

It follows a warning issued on Tuesday about an increase in calls to help people who had overdosed on the drug.

Police today said the arrest was the result of information from the community following the warning.

Inspector Graeme Kynman, of Scarborough and Eastfield Safer Neighbourhood Inspector, said: “I would like to personally thank the local community in coming forward with this information and helping North Yorkshire Police and our partner agencies tackle unlawful drugs within our community.”
