Man jailed after knife attack in Bradford left victim with life-changing injuries

A man from Bradford has been jailed for nearly 10 years today after carrying out a "savage and brutal" attack with a large knife.

Uwais Khan, 18, initially denied being responsible for the attack, which took place in Kismet Gardens on December 5.

In fending off Khan, his 24-year-old victim suffered a serious injury to his hand for which he is still undergoing surgery.

Khan was arrested later that evening and a number of weapons were recovered from his home address.

He initially pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent, but changed his plea when the victim's DNA was found on a knife.

Uwais Khan, of Fourth Avenue, appeared today at Bradford Crown Court where he was sentenced to nine years and seven months in prison.

Speaking after the hearing, Detective Constable Glen Doran, of Bradford District CID, said: "Khan has never explained why he attacked his victim in such a savage and brutal manner.

"We hope the sentence he has received will be of some comfort to his victim, who continues to undergo surgery for his injuries.

"Those who inflict injuries with weapons need to be brought to justice and we hope this outcome will act as a deterrent to others."

Anyone with information about those in possession of weapons can report it to police on 101, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
