Motorcyclist hurt in collision in Dewsbury

A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a collision in Dewsbury.

The 55-year-old man, from Earlsheaton, is in intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary after the Yamaha motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra in Leeds Road, Dewbury, at the junction with Bennett Lane, at 8.15pm yesterday.

The motorcyclist had been heading along the A653 Leeds Road towards Leeds and the Astra had been travelling in the opposite direction and was turning right into Bennett Lane at the time of collision.

The driver of the Astra, a 25-year-old man from Dewsbury, has been arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles involved in the time leading up to it is asked to contact Sergeant James Farrar of the Western Area Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team via 101 quoting log number 1608 of June 24.
