POLICE have identified a man who died in Sheffield earlier this week as 41-year-old Zabair Hussain.

Mr Hussain was found with multiple injuries to his head and body in Staniforth Road, Darnall, at around 11.20pm on New Year’s Eve and died a short time later.

A murder investigation is ongoing and detectives continue to explore a number of positive lines of enquiry to determine how and why Mr Hussain, of Staniforth Road, died.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Handley, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are still in the very early stages of the investigation and we’re carrying out numerous enquiries to get to the bottom of what happened – from reviewing CCTV footage to speaking to potential witnesses.

“We believe a number of men were involved in an assault shortly before officers arrived at the scene where Mr Hussain was found unconscious. We are working to trace these men and would like to speak to them, or to anyone else who saw what happened that night in Staniforth Road.

“While I understand that incidents like this are worrying for those living locally we have increased patrols by neighbourhood officers to reassure residents.

“This investigation is a priority and we have the resources you would expect to establish what happened and ensure anyone responsible for this man’s death will face the full consequences of their actions.”
