Teenager charged with murder after death of Sheffield man

Detectives investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday morning have charged a teenager with his murder.

Emergency services were called to the Wadsley area of the city at around 2.35am following reports a man had been assaulted in Wadsley Lane, near to the junction with Braemoor Road, Sheffield.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead.

South Yorkshire Police today named the victim as Matthew Wilson.

A post-mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

Officers investigating the assault arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of murder on Saturday.

Today, Lucas Bigley, of Wadsley Lane, Sheffield, was been charged with murder.

He will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Road closures and diversions were in place around Wadsley Lane yesterday while detectives carried out their enquiries.
