A DRIVER arrested for speeding in North Yorkshire blamed a woman on the Isle of Wight - who was then hauled into court.
Steven Shore, 54, gave police the name of a woman driver he did not know after camera vans picked up his BMW speeding on two occasions.
He was arrested only after the innocent woman was summoned to court, where she told magistrates she did not know Shore, had never driven his car and had no connection to the offences.
Shore, from East Leake in Nottinghamshire, has now been jailed for six months and banned for a year after being found guilty at York Magistrates’ Court of providing false information.
Traffic Constable Andy Forth of North Yorkshire Police, said: “Shore made the mistake in thinking North Yorkshire Police would not bother to check the information thoroughly.”
He added: “If you provide false information on the forms sent to you following a speeding offence, it becomes a criminal matter and the difference between having three points on your licence or, in this case, a prison sentence.”
