A MAN who hurled chairs at a Sheffield takeaway’s staff in a sustained violent outburst has sparked a police investigation.
The CCTV footage of the early morning incident involving a customer at Imran’s on the Wicker appears to show a man throwing chairs and trying to enter behind the counter to confront staff.
Imran Rafique, Owner of Imran’s, said it was an extreme incident.
He said: “No one likes getting their shop smashed up - we’ve been established for over 20 years and this is one of the most extreme versions we’ve had.
“You get a little bit of trouble every now and again but nothing like things being thrown over the counter.”
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said that police were called to a takeaway in the Wicker at around 1.45am on Saturday 18 April following reports of a customer was causing damage. It was reported to police that a man had thrown a chair and condiments around the shop. There was no report of an assault.
Officers attended immediately but the offender had left the scene.
An investigation is underway and officers are carrying out a number of enquiries.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Inspector Neil Mutch from the Central Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “It is rare for crimes of this nature to be reported in the city centre and investigations are underway to identify those responsible and take the appropriate action.”
Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 102 of 18 April 2015.
