Video: Investigation into murder of Rotherham pensioner to feature on BBC One's Crimewatch

Detectives hunting the killer of 80-year-old Tommy Ward will make a national television appeal on BBC One's Crimewatch tonight (Monday).

They will share details of a new CCTV lead uncovered as part of the ongoing investigation into Mr Ward's murder on October 1, 2015.

As reported in The Yorkshire Post last week, detectives have found new CCTV footage of a car which pulled up onto Tommy's street around the time they believe he was attacked at his home in Maltby, Rotherham.

Mr Ward suffered a smashed skull, broken ribs and fractured jaw at the hands of an attacker or attackers who went on to steal life savings totalling £30,000.

He died in hospital four months after the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Short, who is leading the murder investigation, will provide information on the new lead during tonight's programme at 9pm.

A £10,000 reward for information is also being offered by the charity Crimestoppers for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime.
