The video released by Guiseley Post Office shows two women entering the building, in Oxford Road, on Friday February 19 at around 2.25pm.

One of middle-aged women spots the charity box, places her handbag next to it and covertly cuts cable ties securing it to the post office desk before the second woman puts the loose tin into her bag.

Adeel Butt, manager of the post office, has voiced his shock at the brazen theft of a collection that is used to support an event in aid of the lifesaving Yorkshire Air Ambulance every summer.

He said: “This is the first time we’ve ever had anything stolen. I just thought what a pair of low-lives.

“It shows how low people can sink – it’s quite shocking.”

Mr Butt said that he only became aware of the theft the following day as his view of the charity box during the theft was obscured by a printer.

Staff from the post office circulated the footage online and it has been shared thousands of times as the hunt for the thieves goes on.
