A MAJOR new food and drink festival is to take place in Harrogate as part of ambitious plans to promote the area as the dining capital of the region.
Leading figures from the culinary world have linked up with the regional food group, Deliciously Yorkshire, to lay the foundations of the initiative. Harrogate Food and Drink will promote the culinary depth and diversity of the district, as well as planning the inaugural Harrogate Food and Drink Festival next November.
A meeting last night saw a host of restaurants, cafés, bars and food producers join the project. As members, they will help plan and arrange events that promote the district’s influence in the food and drink market.
Co-ordinator Martin Wilks said: “People have been saying we need something like this for years so we’re absolutely delighted to have got this far. It’s taken a while to lay the foundations, but we’re finally up and running and we’re certain there’s enough potential out there to put the Harrogate district firmly on the culinary map.
“With so many high-quality outlets and so many top-class producers, our ultimate aim is to see the Harrogate district become the dining capital of Yorkshire.”
