He is the man who launched a quad bike over a low-flying plane near Las Vegas and has jumped on four wheels over a paddle steamer '“ all while cheating death more times than he might care to remember.

Now world-class stuntman Matt Coulter will bring his unique brand of daredevil entertainment to Yorkshire.

Australian Mr Coulter – better known as the Kangaroo Kid – will stun visitors to The Yorkshire Post Motor Show and Classic Car Rally 2017 at Castle Howard on Father’s Day, June 18, when he performs his quad bike stunt entertainment show with Paul Hannam.

The father-of-two has had his fair share of near misses over the years – Mr Coulter’s first attempt to jump a paddle steamer in 1991 took a turn for the worse when he hit the top of the boat and was catapulted into the river. He was dragged from the water and suffered just a few bruised ribs.

During his second attempt a year later, Mr Coulter cleared the paddle steamer but had to drop the bike in mid air – landing badly, breaking his leg. He ripped every ligament in his knee and a nerve, which left his left leg partially paralysed.

“It’s like a car crash in slow motion,” said Mr Coulter, 47. “I made a conscious decision to jump off the quad as it landed to get away from it. After I saw it on film later I thought, ‘I was lucky I did not get killed in that one.’”

Jumping a plane in California City, near Las Vegas, and in England tops his list of favourite jumps but these days Mr Coulter says he gets more of a buzz from people’s reaction to his show.
