Early return likely for United's Lucas
LEEDS UNITED: David Lucas could be back in goal for the Division One side as early as tomorrow after initial fears he had broken a finger in the warm-up at Peterborough United proved wide of the mark.
The 30-year-old was forced to miss Saturday's 2-0 defeat and was replaced by Casper Ankergren in the United goal amid fears he had suffered a break that could rule him out for several weeks.
However, an x-ray has since revealed that the injury was not as bad as first feared and Lucas returned to training yesterday along with the rest of his team-mates.
The former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper could come into contention for tomorrow night's trip to Rotherham United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round.
Leeds manager Gary McAllister said: "Dave has had an x-ray and it is not as bad as we first thought. He is able to train with a splint on."
Alan Sheehan, who missed the trip to London Road due to a hamstring strain, could also face the Millers at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield after returning to training.
Meanwhile, United striker Jermaine Beckford was last night named as the Powerade Player of the Month for League One in September.
