Doncaster and Bradford gain from education projects

THE GOVERNMENT is today announcing two flagship education projects for Doncaster and Bradford.

Education Secretary Justine Greening will unveil plans for six Opportunity Areas across England, targeting social mobility ‘coldspots’ through education.

The new £3.5m programme will see Education Endowment Foundation establish a Research School for each Opportunity Area

She will today say that education should removing obstacles to social mobility, and she will highlight the importance of ensuring that all young people can fulfil their potential. It follows an announcement in October for ‘Opportunity Areas’ in six areas including Scarborough.

Rachel Davies, Interim Principal and Chief Executive Doncaster College and University Centre, said: “Doncaster College welcomes the extension of Opportunity Funding to Doncaster.”

Martin Harrison, Principal & Chief Executive, Dearne Valley College, said: “I welcome the opportunity for the young people in Doncaster to have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our young people are no less brighter than others in the country and it is important that they have the best start in life through education and training.”
