SCHOOLS from across the region are being recognised for their achievements in the last academic year at a ceremony today.

The Educational Outcomes Awards measure success in exams based on “in depth analysis” of data from the Department for Education (DfE).

In total 24 Yorkshire schools are to be recognised at an event in Bradford this afternoon.

The awards are run by the SSAT, which was formerly the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. The awards recognise schools which are part of the SSAT network.

Greetland Academy, near Halifax and St Marie’s Catholic Primary, in Sheffield are being recognised for being in the top ten per cent of primary schools nationally based on the attainment of pupils in last year’s key stage two tests sat by 11-year-olds.

There are also awards given for attainment by secondary schools which do not select pupils on the basis of ability. This was based on a schools average for students “best eight” subjects – a new performance measure that has been brought in by the DfE.

Using this measure Abbey Grange Academy in Leeds, Beverley High School, Dixons Academy in Bradford and Ridgewood School in Doncaster were all ranked in the top 20 per cent in the country.

Dixons is also being recognised for the amount of progress its GCSE pupils made last year. Yorkshire has the most schools being recognised in a category for “adding value” to their pupils’ performances.

In this category, Barlby High near Doncaster, Batley Girls’ Beckfoot in Bingley, Bridlington School Sports College, Carlton Bolling College in Bradford, Castleford Academy, Cathedral Academy in Wakefield, Dixons Allerton Academy in Bradford, Halifax High, Heckmondwike Grammar, Kelvin Hall and Malet Lambert School Language College in Hull, Parkwood Academy in Sheffield, Sowerby Bridge High, Spen Valley Sports College in Liversedge, Temple Moor High School Science College in Leeds,The Samuel Lister Academy in Hull and the St Lawrence Academy in Scunthorpe are all to receive an award.
