GOAT farmer and cheesemaker Stephen Akrigg will be the focus of a video diary of preparations for the Great Yorkshire Show.

Mr Akrigg keeps around 150 cross-breed goats at Yellison Farm, Carlton, near Skipton, and makes Yellison cheese and dairy products for the family farm shop and a number of chef buyers.

He is a regular in the Cheese and Dairy Section of the GYS – this year running Tuesday, July 10 to Thursday, July 12.

Claire Montgomery, a reporter from Tyne Tees TV, has begun a series of reports on his business for the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

The first episode was posted online on Friday, at www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk – and also at www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/video/

Jayne Hickinbotham, the Cheese and Dairy Show co-ordinator, said: “This section of the Great Yorkshire Show has gone from strength to strength until it is now one of the best exhibitions of cheese and dairy products in the country.

“Hours and hours of work go into the preparations and I’m sure it will be extremely interesting for viewers to see what is involved.”

First agricultural show in the region this summer is the Newark & Notts, May 12-13.

First in Yorkshire, as always, is at Otley – this year on May 19.
