GROWING without tilling can work but results are very variable, depending largely on soil type, says the Home Grown Cereals Authority.

It has published a leaflet summing up findings from across Europe with relevance to cereals and oilseed rape.

The information sheet is available to download from www.hgca.com/publications and will be mailed out by post to levy payers.

It says: “No-till can give annual yields of combinable crops within five per cent, above and below, of those after ploughing, but there is greater seasonal variability.”
