VISITORS to the Great Yorkshire Show got a preview of the huge sculpture that may soon greet visitors to Yorkshire as they travel north on the M1.
Sheffield artist Steve Mehdi was at the event to showcase a model of his sculpture the Yorkshire Man of Steel, designed to pay homage to the county’s role in heavy industry.
If the fundraising target is reached the work will be 50 per cent bigger than Newcastle’s Angel of the North. It will stand near the site of the Tinsley cooling towers, demolished in 2008, off the M1 near Sheffield.
A replica of the design will be on show to visitors throughout the event.
